With Universal Pictures releasing the action-packed vengeance story “Monkey Man” in theatres on April 5, Oscar-nominated star Dev Patel will be directing his first feature film. Through his Monkeypaw Productions, Jordan Peele is the film’s producer. The first trailer for the movie was released on Friday morning.

According to the press release, Patel plays Kid, an unnamed young guy who makes a meagre livelihood by beating up more well-known fighters for cash every night at a secret fight club while using a gorilla mask. The story of Hindu deity Lord Hanuman served as the inspiration for the movie.
“After years of repressed rage, Kid finds a way to break into the inner circle of the city’s sinister elite,” reads the logline. His enigmatic injured hands unleash a lethal campaign of retribution to get revenge on the individuals who stole everything from him as his childhood trauma boils over.
